• THE GATE OF HEAVEN LEMPUYANG TEMPLE
  The temples around Mount Lempuyang are believed to have existed before most Hindu temples on Bali. Among them, Pura Lempuyang Luhur stands tallest, part of a complex representing the Pura Sad Kahyangan Luhur Lempuyang, one of Bali's six holiest sanctuaries. According to Balinese tradition, these temples serve as spiritual anchors, crucial for maintaining the island's equilibrium. Mount Lempuyang's temple groups are also classified under Pura Kahyangan Padma Bhuwana, each marking one of the eight cardinal directions. Pura Lempuyang Luhur, representing the east (purwa) and the color white, aligns with Balinese deity Iswara's domain.Restored in 2001 and famously known as The Gate of Heaven among tourists, Pura Penataran Agung Lempuyang sits 600 meters (2,000 ft) above sea level on Mount Lempuyang's slope. The mountain is divided into three sections mirroring Balinese cosmology: the base as Sang Ananta Bhoga (Brahma's mount), the middle as Sang Naga Basukih (Vishnu's mount), and the summit as Sang Naga Taksaka (Shiva's mount). The most sacred point is where Pura Lempuyang Luhur stands, while Pura Penataran Agung occupies the middle part, and Pura Dalem Dasar Lempuyang stands at the base.Pura Penataran Agung Lempuyang's temple grounds are structured into three areas: the outer sanctum (jaba pisan or nistaning mandala), the middle sanctum (jaba tengah or madya mandala), and the inner sanctum (jero or utamaning mandala). Entry into the outer sanctum is marked by a split gate known as Candi Bentar, painted white. Within this area are several bale pavilions, including the bale gong for storing gamelans and the bale kulkul housing the prayer drum. Access to the middle sanctum is through three paduraksa portals, with the central portal typically closed except during major festivals.The staircases leading to these portals are adorned with dragon (naga) mythical figures, and along the climb, sculptures inspired by the Ramayana epic, such as Arjuna, Bima, and Yudhistira, are found. At the highest level stands the statue of Krishna, Vishnu's earthly form. The inner sanctum (jero) is the most revered part of the temple, housing Meru Towers and Pelinggih Shrines dedicated to various gods and local deities. Padmasana Shrines shaped like empty stone thrones honor the highest gods of the Hindu pantheon, including Sang Hyang Widhi and the Gods of the Trimurti.

  Tirta Gangga, which translates to ‘Water From The Ganges’, holds special significance for Hindu Balinese. Originally referring to a water palace constructed in 1948 by Raja Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem, the term now encompasses the entire surrounding area. The palace complex, spread across one hectare, features a network of pools and fountains set amidst lush gardens, adorned with intricate stone carvings and statues. Although largely destroyed during the eruption of Mount Agung in 1963, Tirta Gangga has been meticulously restored to its former glory, exuding an atmosphere of regal splendor.At its heart lies an impressive eleven-tiered fountain, complemented by numerous ornate sculptures throughout the expansive grounds.
